HOSTING COMMUNITY BOOK FAIR, April 11-25
COMMUNITY BOOK SALE/STUDENT TALENT SHOW
APRIL 22 UNTIL 8:30pm
Students from Wendell Middle will host a special book fair from Scholastic, on April 11, from 7AM- 2:30PM, to help raise funds for literacy promotion.
The Book Fair will feature a wide range of books for young teens and adults, including mystery and adventure novels, fantasy trilogies, sports guides, anime, cookbooks, and the latest bestsellers from more than 150 publishers. The Book Fair will be open each day from 7AM - 2:30PM.
On Tuesday, April 22nd, the PTA will host an open house, starting at 6PM. Pizza and lemonade will be sold for $1.00. Following the PTA meeting, the Community Book sale will be in the Media Center until 8:30PM. There will be door prizes, sweet treats and a Student Talent Show for your entertainment. Parents, children, teachers and the community are invited to attend.
Student volunteers, dubbed the Crew, helped to plan the fair and will also help run it. From creating special promotions to merchandising and managing inventory to assisting shoppers with their selections, Crew members are learning life skills while helping to make pleasure reading more acceptable and cool at their school. “Our Student Crew is working very hard to put on a great book fair event – one that promotes literacy and reading, while at the same time raising money for much-needed school resources,” said Ms. Dextre', WMS Media Specialist.
Fair attendees can help build classroom libraries by purchasing books for teachers through the Classroom Wish List program. Proceeds will also be used to purchase essential media center resources and support school projects. Look in local business for the "One for the Books" collection centers. Donate loose change or $1.00 to directly benefit our school literacy program. Scholastic will also match collected funds to support national literacy programs. Sponsorships are available. Area businesses interested in making a donation are asked to contact Ms. Dextre' at 919-365-1667 or e-mail ldextre@wcpss.net. Don’t miss this exciting community event!
